Over the past few months vehicles with Takata manufactured air bags have been recalled. These Takata air bags are found in cars with the model year between 2002 and 2008, and are being recalled for explosive deployment.Due to these defective air bags many have been seriously injured, and there have even been recent deaths associated with them. The recalled models include:
- General Motors
The expected reason for the air bags’ defective behavior has been stated to be caused by environmental factors, such as humid climates and high temperatures, which caused the air bag’s propellant to deteriorate. Owners of vehicles at risk of having a defective air bag who live in hot humid areas, such as Florida, Georgia, and other states surrounding the Golf Coast should have their vehicle checked.
As of February 2, 2015 over 2 million of the vehicles previously recalled are being recalled once again due to electrical problems involving the air bags that were not properly fixed during the initial recall. If you have a vehicle that was once recalled for Takata air bags, or have a recalled model, check to see if your vehicle is at risk through NHTSA’s online VIN-lookup.
