Many clients involved in a job search ask whether their criminal history can be sealed or expunged. Florida law provides a method to do so. A case can only be expunged if the case was dropped entirely. If the sentencing Court withheld adjudication often the record can be sealed. A person who was “adjudicated guilty” cannot have their record sealed or expunged.
A denied job often leads a client to seek to have a criminal record sealed or expunged. Many do not realize that the process can take weeks. For this reason it is often best to seek the sealing or expunction before the job search begins.
