Injured Workers Suffer While Insurance Companies Profit

Florida’s Insurance carriers who write workers compensation policies are laughing all the way to the bank on the back of injured workers in this state. The Palm Beach Post reported that 23 carriers made over $42 million dollars in excess of the cap on profits allowed by law. They are now being required to return this money to the employers they gouged with high premiums. Meanwhile the injured workers of Florida continue to suffer reduced benefits and regular denial of medically necessary treatment for their injuries. In essence the changes forced through the legislature by Jeb Bush in 2003 have resulted in injured workers being denied necessary benefits while employers are overcharged premiums and the insurance industry is pocketing illegal profits.
